The Importance of Lawn Insect Control

Mar 18, 2024

A lush, green lawn is the pride and joy of any homeowner. While watering and mowing may seem like enough to keep it looking its best, without the proper protection, pests can quickly take over, causing disease and damage. In this blog post, we will explore the importance of lawn insect control, how it can help you maintain a beautiful and thriving lawn, and why you should leave the work to the professionals.

Preventing Disease & Damage: Insects not only feed on your grass but can also introduce diseases that can quickly spread throughout your lawn. Lawn insect control helps control these pests, which will prevent the spread of disease and minimize the need for lawn repair.

Enhancing Lawn Health: unfortunately, insects often attract other big pests such as moles, raccoons, skunks, and birds that feed on them. These pests can cause additional damage to your grass and disrupt the overall health of your lawn. Investing in lawn insect control will help reduce the chance of lawn damage and promote a healthy and thriving lawn.

Now, you may wonder, can I treat my grass and bushes for lawn insect control myself?

While DIY insect control methods seem tempting, they typically only provide temporary relief. Professional lawn care experts have the knowledge, experience, and specialized products to target and eliminate lawn insects effectively. They will assess your lawn's specific needs, identify potential problem areas, and develop a customized treatment plan to keep your lawn pest-free. Without the proper products or insect knowledge, you can cause significant damage to your property or make the infestation worse, so it is best to leave the insect control in the hands of the professionals.

Important Tips for Bed Bug Control
08 Apr, 2019
Although it is possible to eliminate bed bugs on your own, it can be a difficult undertaking. Bed bugs hide very well, reproduce quite quickly and are resistant to many forms of treatment, particularly during the egg stage. A single attempt may not be sufficient to complete the job. Bed bugs can be elusive, hiding in narrow cracks and crevices to avoid control techniques. It's also important to remember that bed bugs are not always found in beds. They will shelter anywhere safe and temperate to breed and spread, creating difficult, annoying, and embarrassing situations later. Their flat bodies allow them to hide almost anywhere, making it difficult to get rid of them. Finding bed bugs in your home can be upsetting, but it's important to understand that it can happen to anyone and that it's good to ask for help. If you have bed bugs in your home, throwing out all your things isn’t the answer. There are tactics you can use to control the problem and discourage it from happening again. Keep reading for some tips on how to control bed bugs if you detect an infestation in your home. Proactive Prevention - The best way to deal with bed bugs is to do your best from keeping them out of your home in the first place. Use a protective cover for your mattress and box springs and check it regularly for holes. Vacuum regularly, including your carpet, curtains, mattress, and any upholstery in your house. Carefully inspect any new furniture before bringing it inside, particularly if it has any upholstered surfaces. If you can, leave new furniture outside the living areas of your house for the first couple of days - especially if you have purchased it from someone else. Reduce clutter in your bedroom to discourage hiding places for bed bugs and other pests, and launder everything from your suitcase as soon as you return from a trip. Know the Signs - The first signs of bed bugs might be small, itchy bites on your skin, often on your shoulders or arms. Bed bugs tend to leave clusters of bites rather than single scattered bites. You might also notice blood spots on your sheets or mattress, small black specks of bed bug droppings, shed bedbug skins, white oval-shaped eggs, or a sweet and musty odor around your bed. You might also notice the bed bugs themselves as you inspect your mattress and bed. Start Cleaning - If you do detect an infestation, it's time to eradicate the problem as much as you can. Scrub any infested surfaces with astiff brush to dislodge eggs. Vacuuming can help capture bed bugs quickly, just be sure to vacuum thoroughly and use the hose attachment. Make sure you include baseboards, couches, bed frames, furniture, rails, headboards, carpets, and more when vacuuming. When you are done be sure to clean the vacuum afterward and check the vacuum for any remaining bugs. Get rid of any clutter around your bed, and move your bed away from walls and other furniture. Wash Everything - Laundering is an effective method that can be used to treat items that have come into contact with bed bugs. Items such as bed sheets and clothing should be sealed in plastic bags until you are able to wash them. When washing and drying, use the highest temperature the fabric can withstand. If for any reason an item cannot be washed, dry it for 30 minutes at the highest temperature the item can withstand. Use a Steamer - When it comes to bed bugs, steam is a very effective method to get rid of them - if done correctly. You should be using a commercial steamer with a minimum capacity of 1 gallon, preferably with volume control. To effectively kill bed bugs, the surface temperature of the object being treated should be 160-180°F immediately after the steam brush has passed. Use an infrared thermometer to monitor the temperature. Hire Professionals - Hiring an experienced pest control professional can dramatically increase your chance of success in getting rid of bedbugs and take stress off your shoulders knowing the problem will be dealt with efficiently. Professionals use a variety of methods when it comes to controlling bed bugs to ensure safe, thorough, and effective pest control. While bed bugs are not inherently dangerous, they are gross and annoying to deal with if you detect them in your space. Their bites are also itchy and uncomfortable, and can lead to infections or further problems for some people. Taking fast action can prevent the problem from spreading to others and keep the bed bugs from returning to your home. If you live in the College Station, TX area and have found bed bugs in your home, please contact the bed bug exterminators at Advanced Pest Control as soon as possible. Our professional pest control team will thoroughly investigate the problem area, take proactive measures to get rid of any bed bugs, and help advise you on further actions to prevent the problem from returning.
